Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 21, 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains how Abello (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Abello mobile app. By using Abello, you agree to the practices described here.
If you have questions, email contact@abello.app.
1. Who we are
Abello is a household-management app that helps people track their groceries and meal plans, pets, vehicles, and home maintenance. The app is operated by Abello LLC, a limited liability company registered in the United States.
2. What we collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Account: email address (required), name (optional), and the password you set. We store passwords as one-way hashes via our authentication provider, so we cannot read your password.
- Profile: country (required for accurate price/region estimates), state or region (optional), phone (optional), birth year (optional), household name (optional).
- Module data: whatever you choose to enter:
- Grocery: dietary preferences and restrictions, your food allergies, weekly budget, meal plans, grocery lists, recipes you ask the AI to generate. (Food allergies and dietary needs can reveal health-related information; we use them only for meal planning.)
- Pet: name, species, breed, date of birth, weight, food, vet contacts, vaccine/medication/visit records, allergies, medical conditions, microchip number, insurance details.
- Vehicle: year/make/model/trim, VIN, license plate, mileage, service history.
- Home: address, year built, square footage, systems (HVAC, water heater, roof), purchase date, service contacts, maintenance tasks.
- Tools & equipment: the tools you already own (name and notes) for your vehicle and home, so the app does not suggest re-buying something you have.
- Custom fields: any additional notes you add to any module.
- Documents you import (optional): when you use an import feature, the photo or PDF you snap or choose (for example a service invoice, vet record, insurance page, or appliance manual) is sent to our AI provider to read and turn into structured records. This requires camera or photo-library access, which we request only at the moment you use the feature. We do not store the original image or file after it has been processed; we keep only the records extracted from it, which you can edit or delete.
- Voice input (optional): when you use a voice command, your speech is transcribed by your device’s built-in speech recognition, which requires microphone access that we request only when you start a voice command. Abello receives only the resulting text, which it treats like any other typed request. We do not record or store audio.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- AI usage telemetry: for each AI request, we record the user ID, which feature the request came from (across the grocery, pet, vehicle, and home modules and their sub-features, including voice commands and document imports), your tier (free / plus_lite / plus), the outcome (success, refunded, limit hit), approximate token counts, the model used and an estimated cost, and an internal request ID. We use this to debug failures, monitor costs, and apply your monthly tier quota. We do not log the contents of your AI inputs or outputs.
- Product analytics (first-party): we record a small set of in-app events tied to your user ID, such as completing onboarding, generating a meal plan, viewing the paywall, starting a subscription, and whether you marked an AI answer helpful. These contain no free-text content and no sensitive data. We use them to understand activation and retention and to improve the app. This is stored in our own database, not sent to a third-party analytics service.
- Crash and performance diagnostics: we use a third-party crash-diagnostics provider to capture crash reports and basic diagnostics (error details, device model, OS version, app version) so we can find and fix problems. It is configured not to attach personally identifying information to reports.
- Authentication tokens: stored locally on your device in iOS Keychain / Android Keystore (encrypted at rest by the OS).
- Local cache: notification preference flag stored on-device for fast app startup.
2.3 Information we do NOT collect
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA, AAID), no advertising, and no cross-app tracking. We do not link your data with third-party data for advertising and we do not share data with data brokers.
- No third-party advertising or marketing analytics SDKs. Our product analytics are first-party (see §2.2); our only third-party diagnostics tool is a crash-diagnostics provider, used solely for crash/error reporting (see §2.2, §4).
- No device-location tracking. We do not use your device’s GPS or location services; your country and region come only from what you enter in your profile.
- No biometric data.
- No financial-account or payment-card data. Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play; we never see your card details.
- The only health-related data we hold is what you optionally enter: your food allergies and dietary needs (for meal planning) and any pet medical records you choose to log. We use these only to provide those features and never for advertising.
- No data about other people, except service-provider contact details (e.g. your vet or a contractor) that you choose to enter.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the app: store the records you enter, sync them across devices, schedule local reminders.
- To run AI features when you request them. AI privacy contract: we send only the following to our third-party AI provider along with the content of your specific request:
- Country, state/region, and approximate age (computed from birth year). Never your name, email, phone, or any other identifier.
- Module-specific inputs you supplied (e.g. for grocery, your dietary preferences and budget; for pet AI, the pet’s species, breed, age, and any conditions you’ve recorded).
- For a voice command, the transcribed text of what you said (transcription happens on your device; the audio itself is never sent to us or the AI provider).
- For a document import, the photo, PDF, or pasted text you provide, so the AI can read it and extract records. A document can contain more than the fields we need (for example an address or account number printed on an invoice); only what you choose to submit is sent, and we do not retain the original after the records are extracted.
- To enforce your subscription tier and the corresponding monthly AI query limit (Free: 7/mo, covering grocery and the Vehicle assistant; Abello Lite: 30/mo, covering grocery, Pet, and Home, with unlimited Vehicle AI; Abello+: unlimited). Voice commands and document imports draw from the same monthly quota.
- To send local reminders (vaccine due dates, service intervals, maintenance tasks) on your device only. No push notifications are sent from our servers.
- To respond to support requests you initiate.
We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
Legal bases (EEA / UK users). Where the EU or UK GDPR applies, we process your data on these bases: to perform our contract with you (providing the app and the features you request); our legitimate interests (securing the Service, preventing abuse, and improving the app through limited first-party analytics); your consent (where required, such as the optional health-related fields you choose to enter); and to comply with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time by removing the relevant data or deleting your account.
Health-related data. The food allergies and dietary needs you enter, and any pet medical records you log, may be treated as sensitive data or “consumer health data” under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the Washington My Health My Data Act. We collect this only when you choose to enter it, use it solely to provide the related features (meal planning and pet care), never sell or share it for advertising, and rely on your consent where the law requires it.
4. Who we share data with
We share data only with the following processors, strictly to operate the service:
| Recipient | Purpose | Data shared |
| Cloud database & authentication provider | Storage of your account and module records | Everything you save in the app |
| Third-party AI provider | AI features only when you request them | The bounded inputs described in §3, plus any photo, PDF, or text you submit to a document-import feature |
| Subscription-management provider | Verifying and recording your subscription | Your user ID and subscription events |
| Crash-diagnostics provider | Detecting and fixing crashes and errors | Crash logs and device/OS/app diagnostics; no identifying info attached |
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Payment processing | Transaction details handled entirely by the platform |
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies.
We may disclose information if required by valid legal process (court order, subpoena) or to protect against fraud or abuse. We will resist overbroad requests and notify you where legally permitted.
Business transfers. If Abello is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the successor to honor this Privacy Policy, or we will notify you and, where the law requires it, obtain your consent before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.
5. Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can:
- Export your data at any time from Profile → Export my data. You receive a JSON file containing everything we hold about you.
- Delete your account from Profile → Delete account. This removes your auth record and cascades deletion across every table that references it. After deletion we retain only minimal records required for fraud prevention and legal compliance (typically transaction metadata from Apple/Google, which we cannot delete on your behalf).
If you cancel any Abello paid plan (Abello Lite or Abello+), you must also cancel the subscription itself through your Apple or Google account settings. Deleting your account does not stop App Store / Google Play billing.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:
- Access: request a copy of your data. Use Export my data, or email contact@abello.app.
- Correction: edit any field in the app, or email us.
- Deletion: use Delete account, or email us.
- Portability: the Export my data feature gives you a structured JSON file you can import elsewhere.
- Objection: for EU users, you can object to certain processing. Contact us.
- Complaint: EU/UK users may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority (supervisory authority).
- Do Not Sell / Share: we do not sell or share your personal information as defined by California’s CCPA/CPRA.
To exercise any right, email contact@abello.app. We’ll respond within 30 days.
7. Security
- Data in transit is encrypted via TLS.
- Data at rest is encrypted by our cloud database provider’s storage layer.
- Authentication tokens on your device are stored in the OS Keychain (iOS) or Keystore (Android), which encrypts them with hardware-backed keys.
- Row-Level Security ensures one user cannot read another user’s data even if a query is misconfigured.
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
8. Children
Abello is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU), and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International users
Your data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our processors operate. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK Addendum where applicable) with our processors. By using Abello, you also consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this page with any material changes. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. We will notify you in-app (or by email if you provided one) for material changes that expand what we collect or how we share it.
